Old Relationships in East Asia and the Pacific

Cao Dai Headquarters in Tay Ninh, Vietnam

Cao Dai

Cao Dai is a new universalist religion based in Vietnam, founded in 1926. Oomoto’s relationship goes back to October 1935, just before the Second Incident, when Cao Dai and Oomoto joined in affiliation. After World War II, the relationship was reestablished when Isao Deguchi, President of Oomoto, led a delegation
to Cao Dai Headquarters in Tay Ninh, 90 kilo-meters northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

In 1973, Teruaki Furuta visited the Tay Ninh Headquarters again. Recently, represent-atives of Cao Dai’s California Headquarters attended the 1993 Ayabe Prayer and Forum .

Tao Yuan

The Chinese religion of Tao Yüan was the first to affiliate with Oomoto, in 1923. Tao Yüan worships five sages: Buddha, Confucius, Lao-tsu, Jesus, and Sakyamuni. After 1949, Oomoto has continued relations with Tao Yüan Headquarters in Taiwan.
